There is nothing like the
perfect blend of sweet and tart on a summer day, but there is a trick to
getting it just right: Heat the water and dissolve the sugar completely.
Whenever you see homemade lemonade in the South, it’s usually
served out of an old pickle jar and stirred with a stick. This is a staple
in the South for summertime, along with iced tea. It is best served with
a round lemon slice on the side of your glass.
1 cup water
1¾ cups sugar
1½ cups lemon juice
Combine the water and sugar in a medium saucepan and bring to a
boil, whisking to dissolve the sugar.
Remove from the heat and let
Pour into a 2-quart pitcher along with the lemon juice. Stir. Add
enough water to make 2 quarts. Stir. Serve over ice.
