Apple crunch
Instructions:
-
Apples baked with a crunchy topping is a favorite all-American family dessert, quick to make and delicious served warm with cream or whipped cream. Autumn apples are juicier than those that have been stored for winter and spring consumption. If your apples are juicy, use less water or none at all.
- 4 large, tart cooking apples, pared, cored, and sliced;
- 1⁄2 cup water (optional);
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon;
- 1 cup crushed cornflakes;
- 1 cup tightly packed brown sugar;
- 1⁄2 cup butter, melted;
- Heavy cream or whipped cream.
- Preheat oven to 375 F.
- Butter a shallow 2-quart casserole and arrange the apples in it.
- Add water, if needed. In a bowl, blend the cinnamon, cornflake crumbs, sugar, and butter. Pat the mixture over the apples. Bake until the apples are tender and the crust is browned, about 30 to 45 minutes.
- Serve warm with cream or whipped cream.
