Applesauce crisp
Instructions:
-
Freshly made applesauce from flavorful, tart apples is, of course, the very best for this dessert. A good-quality commercially produced applesauce can also be used.
- 2 cups applesauce;
- 1 to 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice;
- 1⁄2 cup tightly packed brown sugar;
- 1⁄4 cup raisins;
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon;
- 1 cup all-purpose flour;
- 1⁄2 cup granulated sugar;
- 1⁄2 cup butter, chilled;
- 1⁄2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts;
- Vanilla Cream Sauce.
- Preheat oven to 375 F.
- Combine the applesauce, lemon juice, brown sugar, raisins, and cinnamon. Turn into an ungreased, shallow, 1-quart casserole.
- Blend the flour, granulated sugar, and butter until crumbly. Add the nuts. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the applesauce mixture.
- Bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve with Vanilla Cream Sauce.
