Blackberry and oatmeal breakfast brulee
Instructions:
- Preheat the broiler.
- Cook the oatmeal according to package directions. When it is ready, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the walnuts, vanilla, and cinnamon. Divide the oatmeal among 4 shallow gratin dishes or heatproof bowls and top with the berries.
- Stir together the granulated sugar and sour cream in a small bowl and spread evenly over the berries. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top.
- Place the dishes on a rimmed baking sheet. Broil until the brown sugar caramelizes and forms a crisp shell, about 3 minutes. Serve at once, keeping in mind that the dishes are extremely hot.
- What else works? You can replace the blackberries with fresh figs, stems removed and cut into halves or quarters, depending on their size.
