Blackberry barbecue sauce
Instructions:
- Place the berries in a large saucepan and crush with a potato masher or the back of a spoon.
- Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, ginger, salt, pepper, allspice, and pepper sauce. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature. Store covered and refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
- What else works? You can use a fresh habanero or other very hot chile instead of the pepper sauce. Pierce the chile in one or two places with the tip of a toothpick, add it whole to the sauce, and remove it before serving. Wear gloves or wash your hands well after handling hot chiles.
