Bread and Butter Pickles
Instructions:
- 1 Tbsp. celery seeds
- 1-1/2 tsp. tumeric
- 1/2 cup coarse salt
- 1/2 tsp. white pepper
- 16 cups thinly sliced cucumbers(unpeeled)
- 2 Tbsp. mustard seed
- 4 cups vinegar
- 5 cups white sugar
- , 8 cups sliced onions.
- Combine cucumbers, salt and onions in bowl and cover with ice cucumbers. Let stand for 2 to 3 hours or until cucumbers are crips. Add more ice if needed. Drain well.
- In large kettle combine vinegar, sugar, celery seeds, mustard seed, turmeric, white pepper.
- Bring to a boil and boil about 10 minutes. Add cucumbers and oniond and bring to boil again.
- Pour into sterilized jars and seal. Store in cool place. Leave one month before eating.
