Depression bread pudding
Instructions:
- This is a great recipe for leftover hamburger or hot dog buns and
makes a delicious bread pudding. For all of you bread pudding lovers,
this is quick and easy to throw together and can be made with Splenda
instead of sugar. I often halve the recipe and mix up a little just for
myself.
I have a more traditional bread pudding recipe using biscuits that
you’ll find in “old-fashioned bread pudding”.
- 4 hot dog or hamburger buns
- 2 cups sugar or Splenda
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups sweet milk (this is what old folks in the South call “whole milk”)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 tablespoons (½ stick) butter, melted
- Cinnamon to taste, optional
- Preheat the oven to 350 F.
- Open the buns in half. Put in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish, brown side down.
- Mix the remaining ingredients in a mixer and pour over the buns.
- Bake until the buns puff up and are heated through.
