Dutch fruit fritters
Instructions:
-
Apples are the fruit used most often, but bananas, peaches, or other fruits that are in season can be made into fritters.
- Corn or peanut oil for frying;
- 1 cup all-purpose flour;
- 1 teaspoon baking powder;
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt;
- 1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg;
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar;
- 2 eggs;
- 1⁄3 cup milk;
- Sliced apples, bananas, and/or peaches;
- Powdered sugar.
- Begin heating oil to 375 F.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and granulated sugar. Add eggs and milk. Beat with whisk until smooth. Dip fruit into batter and drop into hot oil. Fry about 3 minutes, turning once during that time, until golden. Drain, and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve hot.
