Holiday Mincemeat Bars

- 3⁄4 cup shortening or margarine
- 3⁄4 cup sugar
- 1⁄3 cup molasses
- 11⁄2 cups all- purpose fl our
- 2 cups old- fashioned oats
- 3⁄4 teaspoon salt, optional
- One 27- ounce jar mincemeat
Instructions:
A favorite of our family all these years, this recipe
was from my mother.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9- inch square baking pan.
- Combine the shortening, sugar, molasses, fl our, oats, and salt, if desired, in a large bowl. Using two knives or a pastry blender, mix to a coarse crumble.
- Press half of the oat mixture into the prepared pan. Spoon the mincemeat over the top. Crumble the remaining oat mixture evenly over the mincemeat. Bake for 25 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool completely on a wire rack before cutting.
