Maple Nut Brownies
Instructions:
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts
Active time: 15 Minutes
Total time: 1 Hour 15 Minutes
Yield: Makes 16 brownies
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.
In a small saucepan over low heat, or in a glass bowl in a microwave, melt the butter and chocolate.
In a bowl, using an electric hand mixer, combine the maple syrup, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Add in the melted chocolate mixture. Beat until blended. Combine the flour, baking powder, and the salt and add to the batter. Stir in the nuts.
Pour the batter into a well-greased 8-x-8-inch pan. Bake for 1 hour, or until the center is cooked when tested with a wooden toothpick or a cake tester. Insert and then remove the toothpick from the center of the brownies. It should come out free of any moist batter. Cool and cut into 2-inch squares.
