How to make
Blackberry and oatmeal breakfast brulee
Preheat the broiler.
Cook the oatmeal according to package directions. When it is ready, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the walnuts, vanilla, and cinnamon. Divide the oatmeal among 4 shallow gratin dishes or heatproof bowls and top with the berries.
Stir together the granulated sugar and sour cream in a small bowl and spread evenly over the berries. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top.
Place the dishes on a rimmed baking sheet. Broil until the brown sugar caramelizes and forms a crisp shell, about 3 minutes. Serve at once, keeping in mind that the dishes are extremely hot.
What else works? You can replace the blackberries with fresh figs, stems removed and cut into halves or quarters, depending on their size.
