  Ingredients:
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries;
  • 1⁄4 cup ketchup;
  • 1⁄4 cup packed light brown sugar;
  • 2 tablespoons whole-grain Dijon mustard;
  • 1⁄4 cup sherry vinegar;
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger;
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt;
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper;
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon ground allspice;
  • 1 teaspoon habanero pepper sauce, or to taste

How to make
Blackberry barbecue sauce
    Place the berries in a large saucepan and crush with a potato masher or the back of a spoon.
  • Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, ginger, salt, pepper, allspice, and pepper sauce. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature. Store covered and refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
  • What else works? You can use a fresh habanero or other very hot chile instead of the pepper sauce. Pierce the chile in one or two places with the tip of a toothpick, add it whole to the sauce, and remove it before serving. Wear gloves or wash your hands well after handling hot chiles.
