Southern Lemonade
Instructions:
- There is nothing like the
perfect blend of sweet and tart on a summer day, but there is a trick to
getting it just right: Heat the water and dissolve the sugar completely.
Whenever you see homemade lemonade in the South, it’s usually
served out of an old pickle jar and stirred with a stick. This is a staple
in the South for summertime, along with iced tea. It is best served with
a round lemon slice on the side of your glass.
- 1 cup water
- 1¾ cups sugar
- 1½ cups lemon juice
- Combine the water and sugar in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil, whisking to dissolve the sugar.
- Remove from the heat and let cool.
- Pour into a 2-quart pitcher along with the lemon juice. Stir. Add enough water to make 2 quarts. Stir. Serve over ice.
- Refrigerate any leftovers.
