The Great Canadian Banquet Burger
Instructions:
- 2 lbs (1 kg) medium ground beef
- 1½ (7 mL) tsp salt
- 1 tsp (5 mL) freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tbsp (25 mL) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 medium onion, grated
- 6 thin slices Cheddar cheese
- 12 slices cooked bacon
- 6 hamburger buns or kaiser rolls
- 6 lettuce leaves
- 6 thick slices tomato
Garnishes
- Onion
- Ketchup
- Mustard
- Mayonnaise
- Dill pickles
Preheat lightly greased grill to high
1. In a large bowl, combine beef with salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and onion. Mix together until well blended. Shape into 6 equal-sized patties, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick.
2. Place patties on grill. Cook, turning once, 5 minutes per side for medium or until exterior of burger is nicely browned. Add cheese during last minute of cooking time.
3. Split buns and toast on grill. Assemble burgers by placing 1 patty on bottom of bun followed by 2 strips bacon (or 1 piece cooked Canadian back bacon). Place a lettuce leaf and tomato slice on other side of bun. Serve with garnish at table.
