Waste-not, want-not french toast
Instructions:
- In the summer, I always seem to have a few leftover buns here and
there. Rather than let them sit on the counter until they finally get thrown
away, I whip up my kids’ favorite French toast.
Now, the ingredients are surprising, but not nearly as surprising as
the fact that this will likely make the best French toast you’ve ever had.
The texture and flavor are wonderful, and what we don’t eat that day, I
place on wax paper–lined baking sheets and put in the freezer until
hard.
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 hamburger or hot dog buns
- Syrup, for serving
- In a shallow bowl, beat together all the ingredients except the buns with a fork until well blended.
- Dip in both sides of each bun.
- Spray a large skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium heat.
- Place the buns in the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, until browned.
- Serve warm with syrup.
